Califano Jr. is the chairman and president of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University and the former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. He is the author ofHigh Society. He lives in New York City. Charles Beem is the executive director of Adult Services of Caron, a nationally recognized not-for-profit chemical dependency treatment organization. He lives in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.
