Half-Leather. Condición: Good. No Jacket. Neatly rebacked with original boards retained, bound in sheet with handwritten contents that are now inaccurate (this volume once contained thirteen pamphlets, some on this list are absent). 'The Relationships which Bar Marriage' inscribed 'With Dr. Browns kind regards' - possibly Charles J. Brown, author of Marriage Affinity Question. 1868 Half-Leather. 63, 15, 10, 16, 15, 16, 47 pp. A collection of short works published 1868-71, mostly dedicated to legislation surrounding marriage. The restriction referenced to marrying the sister of one's deceased wife was reversed in 1907 in the United Kingdom, after prolonged conflict in the courts beginning in the 1840s. During this time several novels, including William Clark Russell's anonymously published The Deceased Wife's Sister, treated the topic. It is fleetingly referenced in Tess of the d'Urbervilles as well.
