"From George Washington's first address in 1789 to the inaugural speech of 1996, the inauguration of a president has been an opportunity for a newly elected leader to set the tone for his upcoming administration - to boldly propose new government policy, to establish national and international goals, and to set forth a core of political beliefs, often through the use of stirring language and memorable phrases. This is an unabridged collection of all the inaugural addresses of every United States president to the present time (to Clinton). The speeches' availability in one place provides an opportunity to compare the leaders' powers of persuasion, personal philosophies, and distinctive use of language - as well as to discover some interesting facts about specific inaugurations.
