First UK Edition. 19.5cm, 8vo, 222pp; Bound in dark-brown cloth with gilt title to spine. VG indeed (corners and ends of spine a little rubbed; slight spotting to a few pages, otherwise clean; page edges slightly tanned). Colonel Arthur Robert Kenney-Herbert (1840-1916) was a British soldier who served in the British Indian Army. He wrote regular articles for The Madras Mail and The Daily News on Indian cookery, using the pen name Wyvern. After retiring from the army in 1892 and returning to England, in 1894 he started a cookery school in London: The Common-sense Cookery Association. This, the first edition from 1881, is uncommon. A nice copy. NB: this is NOT a modern reproduction. Photographs/scans available upon request.
