Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. Jacket after Hokusai Ilustrador. 1st Edition. First edition, third impression, published later the same year, a tribute to the book's popularity. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly rubbed, spine very slightly yellowed, price clipped, no inscriptions, internally clean tight and almost square, overall a vg+ copy. 502pp. When Charles Arrowby retires from his glittering career in the London theatre, he buys a remote house on the rocks by the sea. He hopes to escape from his tumultuous love affairs but unexpectedly bumps into his childhood sweetheart and sets his heart on destroying her marriage. His equilibrium is further disturbed when his friends all decide to come and keep him company, and Charles finds his seaside idyll severely threatened by his past. Quite scarce in this early impression.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Murdoch, Iris. The sea, the sea. First edition. London: Chatto & Windus, 1978. Hardback, VG+ in clipped dustjacket with minor shelfwear and small chip missing from top of reverse. Green cloth with gilt lettering to spine. 502pp. Light foxing to top edge of page block. Contents clean and bright. Published in 1978, it was her nineteenth novel. It won the 1978 Booker Prize. The Sea, the Sea is a tale of the strange obsessions that haunt a self-satisfied playwright and director as he begins to write his memoirs. Murdoch's novel exposes the motivations that drive her characters the vanity, jealousy, and lack of compassion behind the disguises they present to the world. Charles Arrowby, its central figure, decides to withdraw from the world and live in seclusion in a house by the sea. While there, he encounters his first love, Mary Hartley Fitch, whom he has not seen since his love affair with her as an adolescent. Although she is almost unrecognisable in old age, and outside his theatrical world, he becomes obsessed with her, idealising his former relationship with her and attempting to persuade her to elope with him. His inability to recognise the egotism and selfishness of his own romantic ideals is at the heart of the novel. After the farcical and abortive kidnapping of Mrs. Fitch by Arrowby, he is left to mull over her rejection in a self-obsessional and self-aggrandising manner over the space of several chapters RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions. Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. A UK 1st Edition 1st printing hardback copy indicated on the copyright page with no further printings mentioned. The author's booker prize winning novel. - The book is in very good condition with a light push to the top and bottom of the spine which also has a crease running from top to bottom. Light bumps to the outside corners of the boards. Light sunning with a few marks to the page block which has pulled away from the spine slightly at the top. Internally, the front free end paper has some light indentations where it appears there has been some writing in pencil. The book is otherwise complete with no tears or other writing evident. - The dust jacket is also in very god condition and has not been price clipped. Light sunning across the jacket, particularly at the top of the flaps, with light ruffling and surface scratching bit otherwise a nice, complete example.

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. Fine first edition of this Booker prize winning novel by Iris Murdoch. Interior of the book is clean with the exception of the faint remains of a previous owner's address on the inside of the front board. Page edges show minor soiling but nothing too extensive. Jacket is price clipped but looks as new and is housed in a Brodart cover for protection. Lovely jacket illustration bearing Japanese waves on the front and a Japanese god or nobelman on the back. A lovely example of this hard to find award winning book.
